Among the many cool things that happened at a conference this past weekend, I discovered a love of bourbon. Someone has been holding out on me! This stuff is fantastic!

Harper, my niece, is one already! The last year just flew by...I want her to stop growing up so fast.

How lame am I for not posting in FOREVER?! I finally decided I would like to start taking some quality pics of my kids again and really figure out this fantastic camera of mine. I did good today and it definitely inspired me to do this more often.

These are by far the oddest restroom signs I've ever seen, courtesy of SMU.

This was the coolest sunset I'd seen in a long time, but in accordance with the laws of lame photography, I only had my phone with me at the time. The whole sky looked was full of rays of sunlight like the ones that peek through the clouds.

"Dear Mommy,
Do you want to play something?
PS - I ♥ U"
I can't believe he's old enough to write all of that
and pass me a note.

Laura

I miss her cooking, and her giant hugs that squeezed all the air out of your chest. I miss her dresses and pantyhose - God, that cracked me up when I was a teenager. I miss her plastic covered furniture, her German lithographs, and her slippers. I miss the way she used to yell at Grampa, and I'll bet deep down, he does too. I miss her stories, her history lessons, and her preserved fruit plucked out of the orchard in the back yard. But mostly, I just miss her. And I wish I could turn back time today.

My friend and I used to joke about whether or not we were actually the same person, and whether we'd only cast one shadow if we stood together. Now I have evidence that we have separate shadows, as his is holding mine up with a marshmallow gun!

This is a crappy picture, but I could barely sit still long enough to take it. I found the Portland ASEH conference schedule on the website and assumed since I hadn't heard back from them that I wasn't selected to present. That is, until I scrolled down two pages. Funny way to find out you're in the big leagues now!

That's me and my paper - my thesis, my baby - on the official schedule. If I could virtually insert *me, freaking out* right here, I would.

Starting on Thursday and ending, sadly, today, my mother and I took a short cemetery tour through cajun country in south central louisiana. This is one grave in New Iberia that was from the mid 1800s that someone had recently glued Mary onto. Her bottom was still a little pliant. I took most of the photos in black and white to capture the contrast and to also capture the essence of these beautiful graves and monuments. Nobody does cemeteries like Louisianans, mainly because they have no choice!

We have families of geckos that live on our porch
each summer. Here's one little guy, on my porch light.
If you could see the bigger version, he looks like he's
smiling at me.

From my trip to San Antonio with doctoral student and good friend, Brian.  Note to self:  this is why you don't take gummy candy on road trips.

Then again, it could've been worse.  He wanted to bring Whoppers.

Day 2: Arrived in NYC to begin my daily 2 hour commute to a teenie little sleepy hollow called Hyde Park. After day 2 I was a lot less diligent about taking pictures. And once I started doing research it was all over. Shivender, my bestest buddy and roommate for the first week, (who hates having his picture taken) and I had so much fun the camera was totally forgotten about.

An actual walk-thru sheet, after going through someone's apartment.
That bottom line says "Throw up along window sill".
See what I'm dealing with each day?

Sorry I haven't been on here lately, but I wrapped up my internship on Monday.  Everything before that was either too dull to write about or so chaotic that it left me no time.  Here's a terrible pic of me with the clinical director, my mentor, and the ABD anthropology student that I spent all my free time with.  He's 3 months younger than me and he'll get his PhD about the time I get my Bachelor's, the punk!

In honor of all the nerdy conversations that ensue when you get two anthropologists in the same room, I thought I'd share one of our favorite jokes.  Vin Diesel & a Neandertal... his features truly make a good argument for cross-breeding.

I'm backtracking a bit, but I couldn't post for two weeks while I was away because I couldn't find any wireless.

Day 1: NC to MD and I'm stuck in DC traffic. It really doesn't matter what time of the day you pass through DC - it just sucks 24/7.

End of Day 1: Post-DC traffic, I finally arrive in MD - my first stop - at my mom's family farm. Dinner with my Grandmom and estranged uncle is weird, but I love the farm. Its so bucolic.
